Texas State Law & TCEQ Requirements
Under Texas Administrative Code Title 30, Chapter 290, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires that all backflow prevention assemblies be tested at the time of installation and at least annually thereafter.
Failure to provide a certified test report to your local water purveyor (such as SAWS) can result in fines or the disconnection of your water service. Jon Hart is a licensed Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT), qualified to certify your system and file the necessary paperwork.
What is Backflow?
Understanding why the law exists.
The Hazard
Backflow occurs when a drop in water pressure causes water to flow backward into the main supply. This can pull fertilizers, chemicals, or bacteria from your irrigation system or business into the city's drinking water.
The Solution
A backflow preventer is a mechanical valve that acts as a one-way gate. It ensures that once water enters your property, it stays there, protecting the public water supply from contamination.
Our Backflow Services
1. Annual Testing
We perform the required testing to ensure your valves are holding pressure and functioning to code. We also get notifications from SAWS when its time to do it again, and reach out before the warnings start.
2. Repairs & Maintenance
If your device fails its test, we can rebuild the internal components (springs, seals, and discs) to bring it back into compliance as long as the housing is not damaged.
3. New Installations
Installing a new irrigation system or commercial line? We install and certify new RPZ, PVB, SVB, and Double Check assemblies.
4. Filing & Compliance
We take the headache out of compliance. We submit your passing test reports directly to the city or water purveyor for you.
5. Freeze Protection
In San Antonio, exposed backflow valves are prone to bursting in winter. We can install insulated blankets and enclosures to prevent freeze damage. Additionally, I can install a "Freeze Miser" downstream of an assembly to make sure water flows through the unit to prevent freezing damage. This service is available for new and existing assemblies and is highly reccomended.
6. Security Enclosures
Protect your investment from theft and vandalism. We install can locked, heavy-duty cages designed to keep your brass valves secure. If aesthetics are your primary concern, there are also "Fake Boulders" to disguise the assemblies from view.
